About

Why We Do This

We are Mainers, some of us year-round and some of us drawn back each summer like the North Atlantic tides, and this coast has a way of settling into your bones. Eastport sits at the very edge of the country, where the sunlight arrives first, and that first ray of light, paired with poetry and music, felt too good not to share. Back in January and February of 2026, a handful of us who love this place and who love poetry, music, and the arts in general started talking about gifting something special to the community. We knew we wanted it open to everyone and free to attend, because there is no better place for poetry and music to gather than on the coastal edge of Maine.

This Festival happens because every one of us, organizers, readers, musicians and volunteers alike, gives our time and talents right alongside our friends, colleagues, neighbors, partners, sponsors, and vendors who help to make this weekend celebration possible. To everyone who has given their energy, resources, time, and talent, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This Festival belongs to all of you as much as it belongs to the greater Eastport community and beyond, and we are simply so glad you are part of it.

A Seaside Celebration

Rossport By The Sea
Where land surrenders to the restless Atlantic, Rossport By The Sea crowns the rugged shores of Eastport, where Cobscook Bay and Passamaquoddy Bay stretch endlessly before you, and dawn arrives here before anywhere else in the nation. It is a sacred gathering place for poets, artists, musicians, dreamers, and all those who gather to celebrate them, who come to breathe the salt air, wander the meadow paths, and let the sea remind them what it feels like to be truly, wonderfully alive.

Our Setting & Ecological Responsibility
The festival takes place at Rossport By The Sea, within a rare and ecologically significant tidal bay habitat along Passamaquoddy Bay, a living coastal ecosystem we approach with reverence and care. We gather on land that has been home to the Passamaquoddy people since time immemorial, and we carry that history with gratitude and deep respect. 🪶
